ICD-10-PCS codes and guidelines for the 2022 fiscal year

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published the final ICD-10-PCS codes and guidelines for the 2022 fiscal year (FY) he FY 2022 ICD-10-PCS code files, which contain information on the ICD-10-PCS updates for FY 2022.  These new codes are available in the Downloads section here.  These FY 2022 ICD-10-PCS codes are to be used for discharges occurring from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022 and for patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2022.

In all there were 78,220 code changes which is an increase of 117 from FY 2021.  For Medical and Surgical procedures, there were 67,754 codes which represents an increase from 2021.  There were 264 New Technology codes which represent an increase of 95 procedure codes compared to 2021.  Imaging codes also increased. 

For requesting new codes, there is an upcoming ICD-10 C&M Committee Meeting.  Friday, June 11, 2021 was the deadline for members of the public to submit code requests for discussion at the September 14-15, 2021 ICD-10 Coordination and Maintenance Committee Meeting.  You were to indicate if you are submitting your request for consideration an April 1, 2022 or October 1, 2022 implementation date.
